We're back with another Intel Brief. This week, we discuss two big things.

The tragedy in Grand Blanc Township, and how we move forward.

And how we got here with a federal government shutdown, why I'm fighting for health care and how a shutdown will impact Michiganders.

I took to the floor of the Senate tonight to talk about War Powers, how President Trump is using a well-worn authoritarian playbook and how nobody gets to rewrite the Constitution.

Not a President. Not an advisor. No one.

We owe it to the Grand Blanc community to turn this tragedy into action. That's why Senator Gary Peters and I introduced the Pray Safe Act to ensure everyone, no matter their faith, can practice their religion without fear of intimidation or violence. midmichigannow.com/news/local/m...

We need people at the Defense Department who will stand up to illegal orders. This is not a hypothetical exercise:

During protests in 2020, President Trump wanted the 82nd Airborne sent to Washington, D.C., to, in his words, “shoot them in the legs."

Their health care costs will go up by $1,100 a month, or a whopping $13,200 per year. (2/2)

President Trump’s big beautiful bill has resulted in a health care crisis that is now upon us. Next year, everyone is either at risk of losing their health care or paying more. So, we did a little math to estimate what that might look like for a couple in Lansing. (1/2)

The President cannot just wage a secret war against secret enemies.

This anniversary is a reminder of the acute pain felt across communities — in the Middle East and home in Michigan — and the urgent, urgent need for a peace plan that ends this cycle of violence. There is, today, a plan on the table. Both sides should take it and move forward without delay. (4/4)

They are fighting to ensure their loved ones aren’t forgotten — and to push for this peace deal to be accepted by both sides.

I’m also thinking about the loss of life and limb in Gaza, and the life of the average person living through this situation for two years. (3/4)

... tens of thousands killed, and which continues today.

Today, I met with former hostages and the families of those still captive — to keep focus on the 48 hostages still held captive -- about 20 of whom we believe are still alive-- and remember those 83 killed.

Today marks two years since the October 7 attack that took the lives of almost 1,200 parents, children, friends, and neighbors, and took 251 people hostage, in an act of sheer hate. It kicked off 2 years of pain, suffering and violence for Israelis and Palestinians that’s resulted in... (1/4)

President Trump has created a health care crisis with his Big Beautiful Bill, and now everybody’s going to be getting a letter saying their health care is going up.

I want to hear your stories. Share your letter with me: slotkin.senate.gov/letters

President Trump has created a health care crisis. And he has systematically made America poorer and sicker.

If you have private employer-provided insurance, you’ll get a letter telling you that your health care is going to go up by 10-20% starting January 1. That's because of the health care crisis created by this President and his Big Beautiful Bill.

President Trump has plunged America into a health care crisis. Instead of working to fix that, his Administration is quietly trying to cut Social Security benefits that millions of Americans have worked a lifetime to earn.

We can learn from our law enforcement about the importance of being nonpartisan about a tragedy like this. In the aftermath, we came together as Democrats and Republicans at the local, state, and federal levels to figure out how we could get support to the Grand Blanc community.

It’s heartbreaking to return to DC after Yom Kippur, to a targeted attack at a synagogue in Manchester. On the heels of the attack against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, it is mind-boggling that we see another attack on people simply trying to exercise their faith.
