"Study for Invocation" is part of a group show honoring a different kind of path-finder- a teacher who made things possible for me when I was very much still figuring things out. That teacher was Philip Geiger and you can read about what I learned from him here: sloweye.net/randall-stol...

So in this case that little study ended up taking a lot longer. Partly because the number of decisions involved is really about the same. Partly because the little painting was being used as a pathfinder for the larger painting- especially helpful when there's gold leaf involved.

Here's the full sized painting, simply titled "Invocation" and a snapshot showing the incomplete "study" hanging on the wall to the left of it. That's a sorta working drawing higher on the wall- a scribbled-on printout

This painting is titled "Study for Invocation"- it's a smaller painting at 19 by 13 inches. The title includes "study" because there's a larger version of the composition. Which of the two do you think was faster to paint?

One of my “Illuminate” postcard prints made it to Antarctica where it spent a few months of wintry summer with friend Caz, who was driving big machines around in the snow. More great photos over on FB at Caz R Applegate. So fun sending these palm sized images across time and space.
A black and white art print of a moonlit landscape lies on volcanic rock and snow An metal door with an open mailbox with a brown envelope and a black and white art print, their is now on the ground A person with a jacket red hat and mirror sunglasses stands in front of a vast field of sunlit ice and snow. There is a solitary penguin in the middle distance

Lucky to catch the Giorgio Morandi exhibit at Galleria Mattia De Luca in NY on one of its last days (thru 11/26). This photo is of Morandi's final painting, from 1964.
A photo of Giorgio Morandi's final still life painting shows a grey and white painting of two bottles and two boxes arranged so that they make an almost abstract image with the poetic, loose brushwork and muted colors typical of the artist. the painting is surrounded by a black velvet and weathered grey frame and hangs on a white wall.

Something blue. This is "Held" - it's acrylic dispersion and iridescence on polymer canvas and 12 x 19 inches
A blue and white and yellow contemporary landscape painting made up of many tiny painted circles hangs on a white wall with pin holes and paint spatters. The painting looks like the silhouette of a group of trees cupping the sun #art #sunlight #blue
