Parenting lesson I got to learn the hard way. I do a lot to ensure my kids feel safe talking to me. And still my daughter lied about a boy… the first boy she’s ever shown interest in. Then she ignored my texts for two days while at her dad’s.

I found out this weekend, that someone I barely knew in middle school, has passionately hated me ever since… and I am 34 years old. It’s wild to try and wrap your head around minding your own business and being absolutely loathed #interesting #clarity #mentalhealthmatters

I asked my daughter if she wanted to celebrate the one year anniversary of her toe amputation. She explained that people like MLK are some place good like heaven, and her toe is probably in the trash, so there is nothing to celebrate.

On February 9, 1981, Dr. Alexa Canady became the first Black woman neurosurgeon in the U.S. She specialized in pediatric neurosurgery, later leading the Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s neurosurgery department, saving countless lives.

Build community. Now, connect to people you can learn from. Connect to people who inspire you. And be that in return. Look local, what needs are going unmet? Can you help fill them? Can you volunteer?

When you build a life, a marriage, and a family on land you intend to grow old on. Having to scramble to leave it… just feels so wrong.

So, there's a coup going on, and lots of us are wondering what we should be doing, right now, today. A suggestion: Increase your giving to organizations and people that are fighting the coup, and who are supporting people in more peril than you are. Maybe start with. @aclu.org and @wck.org
