I’m pretty much a full-time carer for my parents. Both of them have Alzheimer’s/Dementia at different stages. It sucks watching them vanish a little every day, the roles are reversed now and I needed somewhere to vent about what’s happening to them & me
Up early to get Dad to the chiropodist. Mum decides to get up too so they’re both shambling round the kitchen while I’m trying to sort a foot bath out for him. Halfway through sitting down he spots the toast I’ve made and starts eating that while I stand there holding a bowl of hot water. #carer

Care home rang this aft asking why I hadn’t picked Mum up from her week’s respite. I thought she was due out tomorrow. Drove over to get her. Lady in the room opposite was sitting on the edge of her bed with rugby on TV. She had a toy cat on her knee & was stroking it making ‘meow’ sounds 😢 #carer

Hide in bed where none of it exists. Up, take antidepressants and downstairs where Inspector Morse is blaring murder and violence.
Light the fire, make Dad breakfast (with jam hidden from him so he doesn’t eat the whole jar at once) then back to bed with coffee and toast. #carer #dementia

Dad hasn’t bathed in weeks. This am he didn’t make it to the loo in time, forcing the issue. Got him in, put his clothes in washer, hoovered lounge til he yelled to get out. Cleaned bath, towels in wash, sat sweating & panting til he came downstairs & said “I’m ready to go out now”. Great #carer
