This is "all home buyers," not just first home buyers. Of course, the age of first timers has increased dramatically, but part of the increase shown in the chart is likely due to older individuals buying smaller homes once they become empty nesters or retirement homes.

I suspect that part of the problem in the US is that Kaiser is competing for staff, including physicians and phys. assistants, supplies, including drugs and appliances, and, of course, real estate.

Brad--I'm older than you. I remember that in 1966 the Democratic Party's candidate for governor of Maryland was a guy who tried to tap into this sort of sentiment by opposing a law that required that there could be no discrimination in home sales due to race. He lost to a liberal: Spiro Agnew.

The exception would be if you have specific risk factors or a medical history that warrants regular MRI monitoring - but this would be a targeted screening, not part of a general exam.

- **Limited benefit** - For most people without symptoms, the likelihood of detecting something that needs treatment is very low

- **Unnecessary exposure** - While MRIs don't use radiation, they can sometimes find incidental findings (harmless abnormalities) that lead to unnecessary worry or additional testing
