"Hunted to Extinction", by @premeemohamed.com:
This felt like just the expertly-crafted opening chapter of a much bigger, deeper story, and I, for one, would be interested in experiencing the rest of it!

"Grand Junction", by @chuckwendig.bsky.social:
One would think that by now I would see these twists coming, but the seamless narrative drew me in and carried me along for the ride, allowing the turn to sneak up like a thief in the night. Beautifully done!

"Awaiting Orders in Flaggston", by @somercanon.bsky.social:
This heartbreaking tale is best summed up by the old cliche, "The more things change, the more they stay the same", and this is now one of my favorite stories by Somer Canon!

"He's a Righteous Man", by @ronaldmalfi.bsky.social:
A wonderfully enthralling narrative with a turn I did not at all see coming, and what a turn it was! Damn!
slycon8.bsky.social
A riveting and brutal tale, and perfectly placed as well!

"Abagail's Gethsemane", by Wayne Brady & @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social:
To take on a story involving such an iconic character and not only do it justice, but to add even further depth and complexity, is a shining testament to the absolute brilliance of these authors!

"The Mosque at the End of the World", by @usmantm.bsky.social:
A phenomenal story of community standing together against evil despite overwhelming odds, complete with unlikely heroes, heartbreaking losses, & a hopeful ending...kind of like, you know, THE STAND, but in a different part of the world!

"The Story I Tell Is the Story of Some of Us", by @paultremblay.bsky.social:
It took about a page for me to adjust to the narrative style, but once I did I was fully invested until the very end! Both the narrator and the protagonist were quite intriguing, and even the narratee seemed interesting!
slycon8.bsky.social
One hell of an ending, too!

"The Boat Man", by @tananarivedue.bsky.social & @kundalinisteve.bsky.social:
It only took a couple of paragraphs for me to become fully immersed in this captivating and adventurous tale of a young girl setting out toward a new beginning with two very unique (and possibly dangerous?) companions!

"Across the Pond", by @vlatinalondon.bsky.social:
An intriguing take on a couple of would-be followers of a certain Walkin' Dude, including a well-executed "role reversal" and a rather bleak ending!

"Keep the Devil Down", by @rioyouers.bsky.social:
THROTTLE (or better yet, "Death Proof"?) meets THE STAND (literally!), with a kick-ass heroine and her newfound companion, culminating in an extremely satisfying conclusion!
slycon8.bsky.social
(And a certain reference that shall remain unnamed so as to avoid any spoilers is absolutely brilliant!) Now I just need to know the rest of the story!

"The Legion of Swine", by @blacktopkid.bsky.social:
There are a number of stories in this anthology involving genuine, good-natured country folk, and this is yet another one of those, but with a nicely played bit of "country justice" to top it off.

"Milagros", by @cynthiapelayo.bsky.social:
When an author can grab your undivided attention and make you fully invested in a character (and their pet) in just 9 1/2 pages, that’s some damn fine storytelling! I can also freely admit it did not at all go the way I thought it was going to. Wow!

"I Love The Dead", by @joshmalerman.bsky.social:
Are stories set in the immediate wake of an apocalypse supposed to be fun? Should they leave you feelin' groovy? Well, this absolute gem of a contribution from the one and only Josh Malerman was, and it did, and needless to say, I loved it!

"Make Your Own Way", by @almakatsu.bsky.social:
An intriguing story about adaptation and survival involving palpable character work, with a dose of love and betrayal thrown in for good(?) measure, and the differing dreams (based on "alignment") once again played a vital role!
slycon8.bsky.social
"Kovach's Last Case", by @mjkoryta.bsky.social:
A superbly-written detective fiction set in the immediate wake of an apocalypse, with one hell of a moral conflict!
slycon8.bsky.social
"The Human Voices Wake Us, And We Drown", by Poppy Z Brite:
Since I'm not much of a poetry fan I didn't recognize the title, but once I looked into it further it brought the whole very unique (and a bit weird, but weird is cool) story together. Nicely done!

"The African Painted Dog", by @catrionaward.bsky.social:
That was an f'n blast! Downright captivating storytelling, from a very unique perspective! If I had a tale, I'd be wagging it gleefully!
slycon8.bsky.social
"La Mala Hora", by @alexsegura.bsky.social:
This had a "The Walking Dead" feel to it, where the living are the scariest monsters, and that emotional roller-coaster toward the end was so well done!
slycon8.bsky.social
"Moving Day", by @richardchizmar.bsky.social:
Equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming, this tale through the eyes of an average teenage boy offers a unique and intriguing perspective of an apocalypse. As usual, Richard Chizmar knocks this one out of the park!
