Living in the Flower Flat, taking The Bruin to little kid dance at a place that only sort of reminds me of Suspiria.

Dunno how long it would have taken without the weird covid-stoppage that overlapped with The Bruin being a baby, but the NFL & NCAA, after decades and untold millions of marketing dollars, finally made themselves unpalatable enough that I never went back to football, even after it restarted.

It continues to be my fondest hope that all the grace and mercy evangelicals have for others will be visited upon them tenfold.

“They are stuck in an America that doesn’t exist for them anymore, and it’s made them insane.” - Karyn Kusama in Chain Reactions (Which you should absolutely watch if you enjoy The Texas Chain Saw Massacre).

I fucking love TCM, but, um, yeah, fuck.

One must power past the instinct to just thoughts & prayers this shit because innocent kids are suffering and dying. Stopping caring about that is what fascists do.

But I kind of enjoy knowing that some portion of those parents will feel awful about having voted for their own children’s […]

If there’s ever an actual emergency just at noon in the first week of the month, I’m going to be in serious trouble. I fully just ignored those sirens.

The crows are having a conference on the giant liquidambar tree on the next block, covering the whole thing like goth leaves that were just too metal to get knocked down by the rains we just had.

“After her acrimonious split with Kandinsky, who had moved back to Moscow and married another woman without telling her. . . ” Yes, I too would probably feel pretty darn acrimonious about that kind of thing!

I appreciate that the Skate-Bowl over by Moscone Center did the right thing and called their reduced-price entry fee evenings “Cheap Skate.”

Sure Maduro is really bad. So was Saddam.

Using a clearly-bad foreign regime as a pretext to sell to the voting public an expansionist military agenda that bypasses Congressional oversight, plunges entire global regions into chaos and enriches oil companies is one of the US's oldest tricks […]

Got caught in a ridiculous downpour walking to (of all things) swimming with The Bruin. But she had the best kindergartener time running into all the deepest puddles and under the spilliest gutters.

We were a little bit wetter getting out of the locker room after family swim than if it had been […]

The Bruin has suddenly stopped having time for playgrounds unless she’s pretty sure her friends are there (She’s six. It’s a phase. I’m not worried).

But I’ve been sitting on this (admittedly fairly nice, with gravel, decorative rocks & succulents, and even a sundial, but nonetheless it’s a) […]

Had a great time doing a city day with The Bruin (She gets lots of yesses, I get to sneak in life skills & cultural awareness), but it was long. All I want today is to curl up, enjoy the rain, and maybe have some soup.

But JB was sick and still is, and nothing from the New Year’s party […]

Took The Bruin ice skating for the first time. She was terrified, gripping onto me from constantly new and exciting angles while absolutely refusing to interact with the fucking wall.

But then gradually she took to it. With the soft pop radio hits they were playing, it almost felt like a […]

I was so excited about finally being done with the holidays and I wasn’t actually in the mood to leave the house before 8:00 this morning.

But The Bruin has been patient for months as weather and various things kept me from getting her to the Japanese Tea Garden, which she just loves. So whee!!!

“Why don’t you like donkeys?”
“They’re too big. They have ugly teeth. I don’t trust them. I don’t like them.”
“I never brought this up because I didn’t think it would come up: I am horrified of horses, and donkeys, and anything larger than a large dog.”

I am genuinely surprised that a chunk of […]

The Bruin is having the time of her life being the cool big kid leading a little boy who’s maybe three on an elaborate chase through the big kid playground. A group of teens looks as happy as anything to be hanging out in the tot area together. Seems about right.

1) The mom at this downtown playground who took away the found squeaky dog toy ball her toddler wouldn’t stop putting in his mouth was being totally reasonable, but the poor kid isn’t happy.

2) My new favorite thing is the ever-shifting mix of kids at playgrounds, and when big kids are excited […]

Someone yesterday said Christianity was really just Judaism with extra butter and some Paganism on the side. Seems safe to assume that’s not fully theologically accurate, but it does keep making me chuckle.

Absolutely nothing not to love about an insert shot of two church officials about to open a Box They Really Shouldn’t casually tossing a bible off the table to make room.

And not only because it’s still Christmas for a little more than an hour!

“‘. . . a poem in eight cantos, the product of a country cleric. I wonder if he read it to his parishioners?’
‘Yes, yes I expect he did. . . ‘“

I am watching ‘70s BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas, and they are fucking delightful.

MIL kept hoping that the right shoes would fix her foot pain, but they never did. So I inherited about five years worth of barely-worn sneakers. But I’m finally through them. I’m going to miss having this little connection with her.

You can tell I’m old now, because the presents I’m really excited about are the comfy sneakers JB got me and the warm, machine-washable wool blanket my mom gave us for our bed.

Homemade challah French toast, gingerbread, tablet, & fudge.

Pretty sure JB liked the necklace I made him.

The Bruin’s favorite gift was easily the Elphaba & Glinda dolls she’s been going on about for months. Her happiest surprise was maybe the bottle of elderberry syrup I put in her stocking […]
