Did they cave? Maybe not. Eight Democrats joined Republicans to end the shutdown in exchange for a promise to vote on the ACA tax credits in December. This promise keeps the affordability of healthcare on Republicans! Will they keep it? They may have shot themselves in the foot with that promise.

The 2026 Affordable Care Act rates have been posted, showing an average increase of 26%. Overall, insurers propose median rate increases of about 18%. So, many ACA enrollees face double or triple premium payments without subsidies. Renew the subsidies. Open the government! MAHA - if you mean it!

Are we surprised? A group of California Republicans filed an emergency petition asking the California Supreme Court to block the state’s new redistricting measure from being put on the November ballot. They are upset that someone else is willing to play the same game they are playing in Texas.

The Consumer Price Index rose 2.7 percent from a year ago, as tariffs intensify price pressures. This could be manageable if wages keep pace, but employers will struggle to raise wages and pay tariffs simultaneously. So, employers will pay the government more instead of paying employees more.
