Going to bed after a day of intense writing, rewriting, more editing, more more revising, like...
February 4, 2026 at 2:54 AM
Did the full moon do something to my mind overnight? After months of drifting melancholically between thoughts 'n moods, side-questing hard like Don Quixote, today my brain went full frontal focus. And the writing vortex has finally begun.

See you on the other side.

Interviewing a prospective graduate student later this week. It's such an interesting time. I remember first talking with @gjseverino.bsky.social - what happened since is pure magic and intellectual alchemy, changing us both in equal measure.

You left me all alone... FOR THIS??!

New haircut. Duch is either loving or hating it. I am not yet sure. Maybe she just wants dinner. (But if you don't hear from me tomorrow, call an ambulance.)

Snow is now higher than the dog. Duch finds this all just stupid, giving me old lady vibes. She is annoyed when we go for a walk. Then she is annoyed when the walk is too short. It does not have to make sense, she is annoyed regardless. And it is all my fault. 😆

Jag Williams & I had a great time writing for this issue! Thanks a lot to @lisabortolotti.com for organizing and editing it!

(Jag is my amazing grad student, double degree in Phil + Cog Sci, in his fourth year, and on the market soon. Just sayin'...)

Snowstorm in Boston/Cambridge. Duch wasn't convinced that going outside was time best spent. There was some sense of hesitation.

Just unsubscribed from a dick swinging mailing list at my home institution. Should have done it years ago.

Been a long time (maybe since grad school? life's been a blurry ride) but I am reading my way through Evelyn Fox-Keller's biography of Barbara McClintock. Love the dry wit of these two women. Simply not having any of that posturing BS.

This was not a joke (Duch suffering through my singing).

Duch, ever since reaching old age, has grown a silent attitude of disapproval once something annoys her. MY GAWD. 😆

Sent this to my lab, ahem
(The day needs more than 24 hours, for all of us!)

Back from the Blaschka glass flowers collection at Harvard's Museum of Natural History. My goodness. Delicate, vivid, hauntingly life-like.

Done!
Finally "just did it": below word limit, fixed references, improved figures, cleaned glossary... and refined argument turning Mary the neuroscientist into Mary the dancer.

Only thing missing b4 submitting is to hear back about *the* final image's license (@keithfrankish.com). Ooof.
