I am a physics professor at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island (east of New York City). I previously spent sixteen years at Columbia University and the NASA/Goddard Institute for Space Studies. I'm also into music and games.

But this is our dilemma. As scientists we are expected to be humble, but we have to contend with people who are not under any such restrictions. And we've been under steady attack over the past year from the least humble/most "confident" person on the planet.

What is it on? It has been a while since I published anything not related to teaching, but the research I did do is on aerosol monitoring.

I actually thing the vaccine industry has it easier, because (a) they have access to pharmaceutical money and (b) winning a salesmanship battle with RFK Jr. can't be that hard, can it?

But what IS going to work, and is it any less bleak? In climate science we keep losing the salesmanship battle with the fossil fuel lobby, who are well-organized and well-funded. We need to get a lot better at that, but that is much easier said than done for the average scientist.

My daughter sends pictures to iNaturalist all the time. She'll think this is really cool.

I think everybody who wasn’t explicitly a Dodgers fan was rooting with you. And there were so many things that could easily have gone the other way but simply didn’t. But congratulations on a great run.

Ford’s Theater was a fairly new building when Lincoln visited it, so they’re about a century apart. But yes, they do look very similar.
