I get the joke — It’s just not funny, insightful or interesting to me, so I move on rather than dig deeper. YMMV. But, for me (and I doubt I’m unique in this respect), the issue here isn’t alternative text per se. It’s what makes you engage with a post vs just glance at it and move on.

Or maybe it shows that most readers will just blow past posts from people whom they don’t know and who don’t seem to know wtf they’re posting about.

Doesn’t have to be a mutual! Why try to take away anyone’s enjoyment when it comes to entertainment? Politics is different. And so are contexts where opinions/recommendations are explicitly requested.

I remember Mayor Tony Williams trying to make this happen 20+ years ago. “It’ll put DC on the map!”he claimed and opponents were like “psst Dude, we’re already on the map, usually marked by a big star with a circle around it.”

FWIW, my take is I’d rather spend time figuring out new stuff than revising/updating/selling stuff I’ve already thought through. My diss is available to anyone who wants it, so what’s the point of publication? If it’s impact, wouldn’t shorter/more-focussed interventions be preferable to a book?
