And if it becomes a 55%/45% Congress that starts getting purely partisan stuff done, then their approval rating would (relatively) go up, but only with the side that's getting what they want. The other half of people polled would hate it even more.

Sometimes I wonder if such polls are skewed by how the question is asked. If we have a 50/50 D/R society, evenly polled, then 100% could say they disapprove because there's way too many idiots in Congress [from the party they dislike] and therefore "nothing" gets done.
