Anyway I don't know if it shifts in the later seasons to more of the playboy thing people think of. But at this point I'm like #JusticeforJames

A lot of the kissing scenes and stuff have been involuntary reasons like mind control. He flirts but I think there were about 3 real dalliances/love connections in 29 episodes. And he explicitly said he couldn't be with Rand despite being in love with her because of his duty to the ship.

Fascinating!

And of course Yeoman Rand, the main female character for the first 10 episodes, who disappeared with no onscreen explanation. Offscreen she was either fired because they wanted Kirk to fuck around instead of having UST with her. Or because she reported sexual harassment by an exec. Not great, Gene!

I did finish it btw so I didn't think it was BAD, but I had some notes lol.

I thought the book was mid TBH but it seems like the show may be better. Haven't seen it yet though.

To me a huge part of the difference is that seasons 1 and 2 had a relatively lower budget. Like $48 million for the whole first season. Season 4 was like $30 million per episode. I feel like that gave the first couple seasons a more scrappy vibe

The other episode was the salt monster, which really scared 2nd grade me. Also lodged very firmly. Hamburger monster mind meld I just thought was the most embarrassing thing ever though.

This is one of the 2 episodes I remember from watching with my dad when I was like 8 years old. I've had Spock yelling "pain! murderers!" while mind melding with a hamburger helper lodged firmly in my brain for almost 40 years.

The romance genre has never been taken seriously. Idk why anyone would expect romantasy to be any different.
