We had a coal stove in our Roslyn house (Perfect is its brand name) and a coal furnace until I was in college, early 1960s. Here I am cooking (!?) or pretending to at age 11. Pop must have coaxed me to pose to reassure my grandmother that I was his "good helper" since my mother died.
