His arc is learning the difference between being wanted and being valued. The women who use “affection” to control him show how a lonely kid can mistake manipulation for love, and how male victims like Denji can think exploitation is care.

That’s actually the point of CSM. Denji is a socially stunted teen who thinks any bit of affection must be love. Because he’s never had real emotional support, he mistakes control for care. The women around him aren’t written to serve him, they’re using him because he’s vulnerable.
