I just got into bed at 4:30, but in my defense I took 4 prednisolone at noon, a life choice I sorely regret now.

Weird, I logged in to verify. And if I look at one of the books I bought, it says it has Adobe DRM, but when I download it, it's a straight .epub. If I rename it to .zip I can open it and see the files and there's no trace of anything else.

Smashwords, but the books available there usually aren't available elsewhere.
Directly from the author's website when possible.
Otherwise, I usually buy on Rakuten, iirc they don't use Adobe DRM.

This painting also needs a serious cleaning and a new layer of UV-resistant varnish.

Merciii !

Also, that assumes that the person moderating your comment knows the reference you're making, and why would they? However well known you think it is, there will always be someone who's not familiar with it and sometimes that someone is the moderator.

I'm more of a " LE CLIGNOTANT C'ÉTAIT EN OPTION SUR TA CAISSE, CONNARD ?" person myself

My work laptops are all HP, and same. I was once on a call with a colleague that was cut short because he'd accidentally turned off his laptop while trying to do a screen shot...

Whoa! I've friends who are holidaying in Cardiff right now, but I don't know whether they've ever been TW/DW fans 🤔

I hadn't known either 🤷🏻

Oooh, that reminds me of the crime novel set in the 18th century where the woman spent the whole book being afraid of being hanged for killing her husband. No, honey, at that time women were burnt at the stake for that, because it's petty treason.

Actually the tomato thing was less jarring than the hummingbird, because it was a plot point that the cook was experimenting with these newfangled things for the doge's kitchen. So I could forcibly suspend my disbelief about it with minimal eye-rolling.
The hummingbird was just... there.

And genealogy is a popular hobby here, so you can easily look up last names from the time and place you're interested in. Instead of giving a particled name to everyone and their dog.

In some places, babies received multiple names, but generally only used one. In other places, multiple names were the exception, though you can find the occasional Marie Anne.
I looked up the Jeanne Maries in my tree and the death records of the 18th C ones show they only used one name, not both.
