I went to the MTA board meeting where they specifically assured transit agency heads that things would go smoothly on Dec. 10. How frightfully disappointing.

Thank you! This is wonderful. I actually learned a lot. And for the record, I've finally gone to a white-light tree this year because I just gave up trying to ever find a strand of multicolored LEDs that could replicate the lovely rainbow incandescents we used to enjoy.

there's a parallel between nonprofit world and academia, where there's a constant tide of idealistic, hopeful people coming in the door, and the people on top are able to lever that commitment to The Cause to extract from them in a way that's harder when everyone's just there to make a buck

Has there been any discussion about making Tube 2 dual-guage for both standard gauge and BART trains, or is that technically impossible?

The planning commission has stated repeatedly that they do not foresee mass demolition of rent-controlled units, and buildings with 3+ such units are illegal to demolish.

There’s just nothing left of a university’s mission if instructors can be disciplined and fired for teaching the current state of knowledge in their fields, the degrees they issue are worth precisely the value of the paper they’re printed on and not a jot more
