I belong to a forum of people with Pancreatic Exocrine failure. Can't digest food without prescription enzymes. The folks from UK are having major problems getting this medication - pancrelipase aka Creon, zenpep etc.

The best teacher I ever had was 9th grade algebra back in the 70s. We were assigned problems in the next section of the book without lecture. We had to go figure it out and do the homework and then he would go over it in class. Worked for those of us easily bored.

I don't think this means Western companies don't need to spend so much as it is a "the emperor has no clothes" moment. It may well be we need to spend that much to get real AI but what they're selling right now is more of a con.

I worked in IT for the USAF for a while. There are lots of inefficiencies. Most of them were put in place to prevent corruption. I used to have to get the same 12 approvals on a routine software purchase as I did a minicomputer.

I'm hoping Kroger's "calculate your price based on facial recognition" goes the way of the walgreens product. Although they'd probably wind up giving my husband his ice cream for free.

When robots can do HVAC, then perhaps firefighting will follow. I'm amazed at what the helicopter pilots are actually doing.
