erviss.org (ECDC) writes: “The increase in influenza infections is primarily seen in children 5–14 years old. Influenza A is dominant, with A(H3) accounting for most of the subtyped detections this week”.
Data is normally lagging a week or two as sequencing takes time.

I think so - but not a virologist. No sign in other reports public in the EU yet.

But even though we have significant drift - protection on severe disease is probably still fine, but more people could be infected leading to an overall larger wave.

Thank you for the updated article. The new figures are nice. Is there an outbreak centrered in female sex workers or is because women are more likely to seek medical advice (maternal care etc.)?

This continues to increase the potential for further transmission, particularly in Africa.

Mpox remains a virus that primarily spreads within specific networks and among particularly vulnerable groups, either due to high numbers of sexual contacts or general living conditions. (10/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
In the affected countries, population immunity is declining due to both a decreasing proportion of the population vaccinated against smallpox and annual population growth of approximately 2–3%, which outpaces the number of people being vaccinated or acquiring immunity through infection. (9/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
In terms of vaccination, a significantly larger supply of vaccines will be required to contain the outbreak and Africa CDC is urgently asking for more vaccines initailly +6 mio. (8/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Thus, even though control is being achieved in countries with the initial outbreaks (DRC, Uganda, Burundi), the total disease burden from mpox in Africa continues to rise. (7/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Overall, the countries currently experiencing active transmission i still rising over time and now affects more than countries with af population of more than 300 mio. (6/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Due to the size of the country, any widespread transmission could significantly increase the overall mpox burden. Ethiopia has generally not experienced large mpox outbreaks in the past. (5/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
At the Africa CDC meeting, it was also reported that there is now transmission in the southern part of Ethiopia. There is significant concern about preventing further spread in Ethiopia. (4/12)
June 3, 2025 at 2:56 PM
The paper indicates that the outbreak is primarily driven by young people and sexual networks at this time. While clade is IIb spread pattern looks alot like reports from clade Ib in West Africa
(3/12)

Sierra Leone currently has the highest number of reported cases and now bears the greatest case burden across countries.

@kindrachukjason.bsky.social and colleagues have published a preprint on the demographics of mpox cases in Sierra Leone – https://t.co/D9QosVP1Bq. (2/12)
