Comprehensive presentation of the "Theorem of the Day", starting with a statement of this theorem.

Galois’ Theorem on Finite Fields : A finite field with n elements exists if and only if n = p^k for some prime p and some non-negative integer k. Moreover this field is unique up to isomorphism.

Glorious afternoon. Read @snezanalawrence.bsky.social’s Mathematical Meditations by a lake. Watched light shine through the trees. Discovered hidden paths. Met a turtle. Touched some rocks. 😌
A hand holding Snezana Lawrence’s “Mathematical Meditations” in front of a tree and lake. The cover of shows a building composed of white, green, gray, and brown boxes with keyholes and a person standing in front, holding a key. A glorious maple tree with winding branches and thousands of leaves. A turtle rests on a brick pedestal in the middle of a lake, with reflections of clouds appearing in the still water. A unpaved path leading into a tiny forest.

I will love @snezanalawrence.bsky.social forever for introducing me to sangaku🤩!

Context ➡️ en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangaku
A page from Chapter 3 of Snezana Lawrence’s “Mathematical Meditations”, presenting a geometrical puzzle from the Edo period of Japan, in which three squares and three circled of varying sizes are inscribed in a triangle.

We're back on Thurs. 18 Sept. when
@snezanalawrence.bsky.social will guide us through 'A Little History of Maths.' How did our ancestors think about numbers? How was maths used to explain and understand the world around them? Where do numbers even come from? sitp.online/sitp/bedford/ #Bedford

Reading in the garden is the perfect way to end the day. July’s #Wokeratibookclub has been a pleasant saunter through the history of maths in a very accessible way

‘A little history of Mathematics’ by Snezana Lawrence @snezanalawrence.bsky.social

I recommend 👍

Today marks the 81st Anniversary of #DDay, the largest seaborne invasion in history and the beginning of the liberation of France.

To mark the occasion here's a 🧵 of Yale books with a quote from each.
