for a week!!! it just horrifies me even to think about, especially because it was during this production that Yibo got really into meditation and it makes me anguished to think that he could have been trying to self-correct his neurospicy tendencies after his director locked him in a room for a week

even with a huge pile of movies it seems like he was denied any sunshine or much human contact outside of his director, which just seems so awful to me, especially for someone who seems to need as much stimulus as Yibo 😩

yeah it's the impact that must have had on him as a neurodivergent kid I can't bear thinking too much about. I mean he's obviously fine now but it really seems like that whole filming experience and then the experience he had filming Intercross made him think acting has to be miserable to be good.

yeah method acting has been widely called out as harmful and damaging. (And you're thinking of Heath Ledger. Joaquin Phoenix also has done method acting, but Heath Ledger went really really deep into it while he was playing the Joker, and it's widely believed that played a role in his suicide.)

yes it was awful, he literally made Yibo isolate himself in his hotel room for a week without his phone (!!!) or any visitors except Cheng Er himself. Yibo talked about it in interviews like it was a good experience but it was horrifying, I am still so horrified thinking about it.

and since we know very little about Intercross except that Yibo's character was apparently sad the whole time which probably means Yibo was sad the whole time and then he just STOPPED MAKING MOVIES FOR YEARS i just cannot handle how much I angst about Cheng Er having so much influence over my son

and since we know that for Hidden Blade Cheng Er literally locked him in a room for a week without any company or stimulation or fidget toys in order to expose him to deep isolation, which I view as torturous and dangerous for Yibo's mental health, and Yibo obvs respects him but I'm skeptical!

no! no i'm talking about Cheng Er! Since all Yibo has done since making films with Cheng Er is talk about how difficult and strenuous and miserable acting is, and then he disappeared from filming for two years!

actually i guess that depends on what you think "kudzu" looks like. when it's pronounced accurately, "kood-zu" like you'd say it in Japanese, I know you're not from 'round here, because here in the south we say it "cud-zoo"

now that i've seen him check multiple scoreboards as himself, lol, i can appreciate *even more* how fully he was acting a role in this movie, even though on paper Chen Shuo was so much like himself
