For the first time, CIR has uncovered the location of a Sudanese RSF military camp in the desert of Sudan’s neighbour, Libya.

It is directly linked to the war in Sudan.

We will show you where, we will show you how.

When my grandfather died in 2004, I was 11. At his home in Nijmegen I found a battered briefcase, unopened for years. Inside: photos, consular forms and letters — a history of falling empire, colonial decoupling and rising nationalism that marked those who lived it.

GitHub recently restricted access to repos filed with OSINT/dark web/infosec links and resources. I spoke to multiple people that had their accounts blocked from public view without warning or explanation.

Read GitHub's response and more @indicator.media:

Why is GitHub restricting accounts that share OSINT and dark web resources?
At least half a dozen repos or entire accounts were recently banned or blocked from public access

We traced an armoured vehicle used in a violent attack in Sudan, all the way back to a location in the middle of Libya's desert.

There it was parked, at a location where we found hundreds of other vehicles parked in rows.

Gevonden! Inderdaad Riga, Stabu Stiela 1. Zelfs jaren geleden bevestigd door @olafkoens.bsky.social zelf 🙂. Muur heeft inmiddels een likje verf gehad.

For the record, but it appears these are not GB50/GB7A, but newer GB50/GB7B. You can see the difference in how the tail fins are mounted to the bomb. Also see www.info-res.org/reports/alle... (disclaimer: I'm part of Sudan Witness)

And to stick with the metaphor: an electric whisk is not gonna be very helpful at places where there’s no electricity. I mean there will be large differences with areas that are underrepresented or have less data density

Important example showing how synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical satellite data are complementary. Here are pairs of images used by Reuters to document gravesites in Sudan’s famine-stricken Zamzam camp.

www.reuters.com/investigates...

Imagery from Umbra (SAR) & Airbus (optical).
Four images showing fresh graves in cemeteries near the Zamzam refugee camp. The left column is two synthetic aperture radar images, which look like grainy black and white photos. On the right are two very high resolution true-color satellite images. Some graves are visible in both synthetic aperture radar and true-color imagery, others are more easily identified in one or the other. The two types combined help provide a more accurate picture of the total number of graves.

Nyala (South Darfur) has mainly smaller scale damage from munition impacts, but there's also a neighbourhood near the army base that was destroyed after RSF took over late 2023.

El Fasher is tragically not the only city to have witnessed widespread destruction. El Geneina (West Darfur) might even have more extensive damage, where IDP camps were burnt down and neighbourhoods razed to the ground in 2023.

Het Reuters filmpje stond zelfs - out of context - op de voorpagina van de NYT, zie hier, incl. gelijksoortige rectificatie

The NYT front page could use some context right now: the "crowd attacking a person" in the video below are Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters, some of which donned masks and armed themselves with iron poles beforehand.

NYT now just deleted the video and added a footnote

New York Times issue a correction about this story, acknowledging that a video they used to underscore people chasing Israeli fans was in fact, showing the opposite. They didn't correct the argument, but simply deleted the video
