Peanuts comic makes its debut on October 2, 1950.

Charles Schulz never liked the name "Peanuts." The original name for the comic was "Li'l Folks" but was rejected due to potential copyright issues. Later, Schulz's editor suggested the name Peanuts and was published as such. Schulz thought the name was "too insignificant."

Mexican-American animator and film director José Cuauhtémoc "Bill" Meléndez has not only worked on many animated projects for Peanuts but has also voiced the beloved beagle. With this in mind, many (including myself) headcanon that Snoopy is Mexican.

Charles Schultz had the name "Sniffy" in mind for the character Snoopy to pay homage to his childhood dog. After discovering another dog in a comic with the same name, Schultz then decided on the name Snoopy.
