Secondary is “lightning whatever money you promised them on fire”

Going to point out the riots were ignite by MOD opening fire with “non-lethal” munitions, not this provacateur

I think Aussie rules football with US underpinnings would be insane to watch (and probably not good for the players).

Cricket was probably more popular in the US then, one of the earliest international matches was US v. Colony of Canada (1844). Dominance of Baseball/Gridiron Football really took off early 20th century in the US.

1840s books started to get cheaper, but the notion that you can read whatever printed words you want for next to nothing would blow their mind. Like the minuscule cost of lighting.

He went from “The valedictorian of his 1999 senior class and starting point guard in basketball, Pete graduated as the school’s all-time leader in both career and single-season three-point shots made (156 and 76, respectively)”

the editorial and writing mediocrities at the NYT obsessed with Harvard are that way because without it‘s social standing they’d never have had a career. And I could point to classmates that were better writers before and after Harvard.

I’m glad she flew back from her Portland photo op for this important event, truly valuable use of tax dollars.

This is part of his resume. I don’t understand how you’d spend $10k if you are stationed at Ft Lewis. Beer?

There’s a window opened pointing out UFC is a more violent exploitative sibling to its stablemate WWE. Main difference is UFC either doesn’t know how to or doesn’t want to create stars, even though they underpin wide success for it (10 of top 15? PPV for it are McGregor or Rousey)

Obama did nothing to justify his Nobel Prize in 2009, but I don’t think he’s the least deserving sitting US President to receive the award. Roosevelt and separately Wilson received it for accomplishments that arguably lead to future wars.

I’ve definitely seen some pictures of Brit ones that were bolted to the fuselage, but I’ve seen a bunch of US/French/German ones that were big bulky handheld things, and a great many were plate cameras, which requires switching out things. Not easy solo.

Aerial photography needs more monographs

So as a single seat photo-reconnaissance plane how were photos taken?

I’m not sure he wants admission into the culture as much as what he perceives the status to be. He didn’t go to West Point, didn’t do any selective training, nor PME.
snootacamund.bsky.social
If you look at Pete as craving admission into *all different kinds of elite culture spaces* he makes sense. Hes a poorish dude from the sticksish who takes on a big mantle of conservative coded bigotry and and misogyny at Princeton which gives him access to elite spaces.

Pete was a jock in high school - basketball (point guard) & football (wide receiver) - this is revenge for him peaking then.

At this point I might give even money on whether the Washington Post brand disappears before the Washington Times.

US palace hotels of circa 1900 often had substantial numbers of long term residents, or effectively required guests to spend substantial money on other service not provided by the hotel.

The other thing here is they often had fat margins to cover people that did a runner.

One of my ggf was a WW1 veteran of roughly the same age, but died well after the war and long before I was born, not sure I knew any WW1 vets (WW2, Holocaust, yes). In the US WW1 never seemed to be of the same salience it as in UK/ANZAC.

What’s interesting now is watching the Vietnam War fade away

My first black bear encounter while hiking we both jumped up when we saw each other and high-tailed it the other direction.

Only one that was really mad was one who’d been washed downstream in a snow-melt Canadian river. Thought a corpse, looked like he’d kill anything in his path out of the h2o.

Sort of? He applied for and was admitted to West Point, and signed up for ROTC (2000) when it was “Be All You Can Be”, he was commissioned when it was “an army of one”

“old” California wealth is one of the few* sections of US similar to landed gentry, where they play in the big cities with rent collected and lament the profitable despoilment of their former playground.

*similar things in Texas.
