Talking about it with friends and I think you can consider Ishiguro's opening for Kusuriya the link between his fine work of the past and the outstanding work for Shoushimin & Seihantai. Something about the way he built the fake dioramas feels like he was transcending the 2D cel paradigm already

Favorite scene & example of this is the turning point of the episode, her moment of honesty. Overwhelming pop delivery for a heroic run, but our gal can't run for shit (defining trait). Animator Natsuho Iwaida, big fan of the series, brought up how hard it is to draw someone running this slow, lol

It's good that Ishiguro doesn't feel like he's intruding on the series to do his own thing. Taking photos while posing to spell 正反対な君と僕 feels like something that multiple people in the cast would drag others to do... and something others would be less proactive about, which you can also feel here

Using that material diversity (emulated and now, sometimes real) to give form to the contrasting natures that give name to the series. Lots of reflections and cast shadows to underline the difference between real selves and how we present ourselves, another major theme in Seihantai
