Raissa is no longer on social so it falls on me to tell you that Raissa has a new book!
Kaylan Adair at Candlewick has acquired world rights to Jodie Doesn't Love Dogs by Stephanie Seales (l.) (My Daddy Is a Cowboy), illustrated by Raissa Figueroa, a picture book about a girl who doesn't love dogs but may have a change of heart with the help of her dog-loving best friend's pup. Publication is slated for spring 2027; Reiko Davis at DeFiore and Company represented the author, and Natascha Morris at Tobias Literary Agency represented the illustrator.

Who else remembers the SASE in agenting?

One of my first intern responsibilities was putting the rejection postcards in the SASE and mailing it.

I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...

BROTHERS ARE NOT FOR HITTING About the Book
Hands are powerful, amazing tools for playing . . . but hands are not for hitting our friends and family!

Wherever Laila goes, her adorable brother Reggie is always close behind. At school, church, even the bath! But on a trip to the zoo, when Laila feels too excited, impatient, overwhelmed, or reluctant to leave, her body tells her it's time to hit! How can Laila find better ways to express her emotions and be safe with her hands?

Ugh. The only way I became a morning person was by going to bed like the little old lady I am: at 8 or 9 pm. If I make it to 10pm, it is late.

Here’s something nobody told me: you can “make it” in publishing and still feel insecure. Success doesn’t erase doubt.

I’ve seen more than one picture book dummy recently that was near perfect terms of voice and style but ended up being a pass because it didn’t align with current market trends. Checking the bestseller list each week, noting which titles are face out at the bookstore—these practices can help. #kidlit

A Reminder: New Adult to me is not always fantasy and not always sexy times.

So in NA, I feel like this is the hardest for me to convey what I am looking for. The first pic is media comps I think would perfectly fit my NA adult vibes. The second is the way I am reading for NA. #MSWL
