Late to this news. 💙💔

Coming up in the wild and wooly ska scene of 1990s ATL I WORSHIPED The Harder They Come. WORSHIPED. IT.

Rest in peace Jimmy. You were one of the greatest to ever do it.

People continue to assume they know what other people want instead of just… asking them.
Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

Making an effort to add more compliments in my portfolio reviews. I think I've been a little too harsh this year. I metabolize and meter out such an INSANE volume of feedback all day every day in performing my job as an art director it's easy to forget that others are less accustomed to it. #kidlit

Saying things is overrated. Going to spend the second half of my life just listening and doing.

The average person would be shocked to learn how much time and effort goes into crafting a typeface.

The only thing I’ve clocked more hours on than a typeface is a novel.

Hey #kidlt, if you visit the show in the next month or so before it comes down (and you should if you’re in NYC and love picture books) be sure to use the official Original Art Show hashtag (below) to help give the show, and the work, more visibility here on Bluesky.

Hardcover is an elegant new serif typeface for display use. It's one of my earliest typeface ideas, dating back to a sketch in 1978, inspired by the lettering I’d seen on mass-market book covers. More info here: www.marksimonson.com/notebook/vie... And here: www.marksimonson.com/fonts/view/h...

For this reason, I frame reading too as a creative practice.
The difference between the page and the screen is that the act of reading itself is a creative process. You have to create the world being presented on the page in your mind. The screen hands it all to you.
