The fact that Gavin Newsom is even talking to the likes of Shapiro is a sign that he’s a non-starter. I’ve never forgotten how Shapiro said that Trayvon Martin deserved to die. Not fucking ever.
Ben Shapiro: "Israel did not commit a genocide in Gaza"
Gavin Newsom: "I agree with you."

People who were actually enslaved believed that chattel slavery would end one day.

I'm sorry but to me that suggests that you [who are not enslaved in 2026] can also imagine an end to the current horrors.

YEAH!!!! It's exhausting lolol. Like if the solution was that easy I wouldn't be in this situation!

StickerMule has been rotten for ages, as has ULINE, but as with a lot of small-art-business inside-baseball stuff, I don't expect people to automatically know. But now you know.
I stopped using sticker mule absolute ages ago because of the owner’s bullshit. The owner is still on his bullshit, so if you use sticker mule, maybe don’t. StickerAPP is a good alternative, and also there’s most likely a local sticker printer near you (Sticker Ninja in Portland, for example).
The latest move by Sticker Mule's owner. Please don't give these people your money (or honestly send them your artwork, you never know).

And I think that's been an unexpected source of conflict between me and the rest of the publishing industry. Everyone thinks I want to make more graphic novels, even when I keep screaming that I don't.

It's been fifteen years of drawing comics. I'll finish this book.

And then.

I'm Going to Write.
January 16, 2026 at 6:02 PM
That's the funny part. I'm not interested in YA anymore. 😭 I do still want to write but probably adult and not kidlit.

And I mean, I do love comics. But I love other things too. And the sheer workload of comics, coupled with the unforgiving schedules, means there are so many things I've set aside to make space for comics.

And then, to agents and editors alike, I became not a writer, but a comic artist.

The first manuscript I ever wrote was a YA novel.

It just so happened that I was also fresh out of art school in 2010 with an animation degree and, similar to now, no one was hiring.

I needed money, I could draw, so I pivoted and started investigating how to be an illustrator.

I know I come down on graphic novels really hard.

It's bcuz the comic industry is a nightmare.

But the bigger reason I don't often talk about is that I got into publishing bcuz I wanted to write YA novels. I wanted to be a YA novelist.

For those posting unflattering photos of politicians: I get it, it's a way to vent your frustration in a time where certain regimes want us to feel helpless. But promoting cultural beauty standards is NOT HELPING. In fact, it's doing the opposite.

Yup. A passport is as much an indicator of wealth as it is of citizenship.

A passport as a proxy for citizenship is an acceleration of fascism that strips citizens of our rights.

And listen. ICE doesn’t care about your passport anyway. They detain US citizens constantly.

None of this is actually about immigration. It never was, but they aren’t even pretending anymore.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

I hate centering all this on white feelings but it’s become more clear to me over time that things won’t get better for all of us until white folks reckon with white supremacy. It’s like this sort of thing needs to be destroyed from within, we cannot do to for them.

Was looking over editorial notes on my in-progress middle-grade GN about fishing and ended up just reading it. It's my big baby ace story that is also full of yearning, which is my preferred narrative weapon of choice.

And also worms.

When I talk about my conflicts with publishers, most people ask me the same thing.

"Don't you have an agent?"

Yes, and publishers tell agents no sometimes.

Agents aren't miracle workers who can always solve an author's problems. They, too, are limited by the publisher's willingness to negotiate.

Making these things un-turn-off-able is an extremely fundamental core component of the entire industry. It is the same reason you cannot choose between buying yoghurt with single-use plastic or without it.

You cannot fabricate demand for a wasteful, harmful thing without making it mandatory
Dammit, tech companies. The only think I need to know about your awesome AI feature is how to turn it off.
