Good news if you like history, manuscripts, or nice books! 'The Illustrated Cairo Genizah' is now available at *greatly* reduced shipping costs via @theul.bsky.social (UK) and Amazon (worldwide) from this link: linktr.ee/nposegay. There's also a free sample file there with the entire first chapter.
5 copies of 'The Illustrated Cairo Genizah', by Nick Posegay and Melonie Schmierer-Lee, stacked on a light brown tabletop. The books' spines are facing the camera. The book is large and the covers are dark red, with the title and authors' names in white. The cover also has a grid of 21 square images each cut out from a different medieval manuscript.

More than Ten Israeli airstrikes hit the outskirts of Tebnine town in southern Lebanon.

Aren't the "heads of the organizations that pursue the fighters" basically just European human rights lawyers? Is he advocating for Israel to assassinate the people running the Hind Rajab Foundation?

It's genuinely shocking how little of Rafah is left. An ancient city that had a pre-war population of ~200k, forced to take over 1,000,000 refugees from Gaza City and Khan Younis, then completely levelled for the crime of being the only city in Gaza with an escape route.

To what extent do you think Trump's decision making here was actually influenced by protests?

Simplest way to the disarm the "right to exist" rhetorical trap. It's not complicated.

Seems like you don’t believe Israel has a right to exist.

So what is your proposal for where Jews should live then? Do you deny they have a right to exist in their homeland?

Bluesky is so weird. Just found someone denying genoc*de while also saying "we are all antifa." The list of these accounts grows daily.

When we had the 100-day Palestine Solidarity Encampment in Cambridge, every Saturday afternoon, there was a pro-Ukraine protest on the other end of the street. Both actions would be illegal under this change.

Protests 'recur' because the government does not listen. That's the whole point.

'The escalating crackdowns under Starmer’s Labour expose not only its authoritarian instincts but also its political weakness. It is scrambling to shut down every avenue of opposition because it knows its agenda lacks legitimacy and popular support.'

Labour’s War on Protest
Labour’s plan to criminalise recurring protests strikes at the heart of democratic life, transforming political freedom into a privilege granted by the state.

Kidnapped in international waters, extraordinary rendition to a genocidal state, and then imprisoned indefinitely.

You'd think this would trigger the immediate expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador for these inexcusable actions against an Australian citizen.

An Australian woman who has not agreed to sign a waiver acknowledging she sought to 'illegally break Israel’s naval blockade' on Gaza will be “indefinitely detained” in Israel’s Ketziot prison unless she agrees to sign the waiver.

Yep if a 12-year-old black kid gets killed or commits a crime that's a young man, but if a 19-year-old white soldier gets captured in war that's a teenage girl.

Perhaps. South Africa still exists. The end of the state of Israel as we know it, certainly, but Israelis still have a right to exist. Israel could end the occupation, give everyone in the WB/Gaza/East Jerusalem full citzenship and right of return, then continue as some kind of pluralistic democracy

If this ceasefire happens - and I hope it does - Western media will talk about 'peace'. This will be inaccurate. What they will mean is 'quiet', a reversion to the background level of violence that Palestinians have faced for decades. Peace can only come with the end of the occupation and apartheid.

This is actually what is going to happen.

That’s already what’s happening in Lebanon. Israel kills regularly, violates the ceasefire agreement on an hourly basis.

It’s just not on the news anymore.

This is why pressure against Israel mustn’t just continue, but increase.

Watch the videos of our people celebrating and fuel up on joy for the next phase of the fight for a Free Palestine. We will never stop until our people have the dignity of full lives on our land: self determination, freedom of movement, the right to return. In our lifetime.

Meanwhile only 15-20 Israelis have been held in Gaza since Jan 2025, most (maybe all?) of whom are PoWs. It's good that they finally get to go home now, but it's been clear for 23 months that negotiation was the only reliable way for Israel to free anyone. No hostage was served by bombing Gaza.
nposegay.bsky.social
Sorry, is this is even worse than I thought? Presumably *all* 1700 adults + 22 children are just civilians, otherwise they'd be included with the 250 "security threats." Then the 360 dead are tactfully called "terrorists" rather than specifying which group they belonged to.
nposegay.bsky.social
"Minors under the age of 18" also known as "minors" also known as "children"

Also interesting that they admit to having 1700 hostages unaffiliated with the events of Oct 7 but swear all 360 people who they killed are definitely terrorists
nposegay.bsky.social
No inded, Netanyahu et al have torpedoed far too many negotiations. And even if this ceasefire happens, it does nothing to address the underlying problems of the Israeli apartheid system, illegal settlements, and occupations of Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, South Lebanon, and Southwest Syria.
nposegay.bsky.social
This one will probably still happen. Negotiators won't want to scrap the whole agreement and enforcement only comes from the US, so Israel just knows it can get away with one last attack.
nposegay.bsky.social
There were (relatively) small violations on the Israeli side but the Witkoff-negotiated ceasefire in Jan-March 25 mostly held. The 1-wk Nov 2023 ceasefire was similar. That's the best realistic hope for the current ceasefire plan. The question is what happens after Hamas releases the last hostages.
