Good news if you like history, manuscripts, or nice books! 'The Illustrated Cairo Genizah' is now available at *greatly* reduced shipping costs via @theul.bsky.social (UK) and Amazon (worldwide) from this link: linktr.ee/nposegay. There's also a free sample file there with the entire first chapter.
5 copies of 'The Illustrated Cairo Genizah', by Nick Posegay and Melonie Schmierer-Lee, stacked on a light brown tabletop. The books' spines are facing the camera. The book is large and the covers are dark red, with the title and authors' names in white. The cover also has a grid of 21 square images each cut out from a different medieval manuscript.

Bridging my current life in Chicago and my past life in D.C., I argue today at @newrepublic.com that Democrats should ~never~ vote to fund this government. Make John Thune blow up Senate rules and Republicans wholly own the U.S. extra-military military doing war crimes against us, funded by us.
The Case for the Forever Shutdown
Senate Democrats actually allowing the GOP to stop funding the government is only the first step. Now they have to make the case that Trump’s government is illegitimate.

A resident of a nearby building asks a very important question:

“You claim you have warrants, but do you have a warrant to seize the entire building?” she asked the agents. “Do you have warrants to detain the entire building?”

Or: do people lose their rights if they live near undocumented people?

There’s a lot in here that deserves a pull quote, but this is the most egregious. I need people to recognize the gravity of the situation here in Chicago;

"The ones that are getting out are coming home to no home," Watson said.
According to her, after the raid occurred, building management stole or threw out residents belongings, including visas and important documents.

ICIRR is still trying to determine the identities of all the people detained in the raid. Castro said that the organization usually can do that by following up with family members or loved ones. "In this instance, there was nobody left to work with," she said. The only detainee name they're sure of is that of a person who passed their Venezuelan passport to a neighbor as they were being taken away.

I'm really not sure what they hope to gain by sending out 500 highly engaged antizionist activists with testimonies like this.

"300 people on their knees — in fear, no doubt — started shouting, 'Free Palestine! Free Palestine!' calling him a génocidaire and a baby killer ... You could see that Ben-Gvir was stunned by that. His people, the police, they were all stunned by it. They expected us to be cowed, and we weren't."

Global condemnation is mounting as hundreds of international activists remain in Israeli prison days after the military raided and captured dozens of boats in the Global Sumud Flotilla. Greta Thunberg told Swedish officials she was held in a cell infested with bedbugs and deprived of food and water.

This whole clip on abuse of activists in an Israeli prison is worth listening to, but Ben Gvir's apparent public shaming of two prisoners, singled out for being Jewish, is one of the most striking examples of Israel's insistence that antizionist Jews are somehow lesser. This too is antisemitism.

NEW: David Adler, 33-year-old U.S. citizen with the Gaza Sumud Flotilla, says Israeli minister Ben Gvir personally separated two Jewish members from the rest of the flotilla for a photo-op and with the Israeli flag while his aides taunted them.

Mourning those murdered by Hamas isn't incompatible with mourning those murdered by the Israeli state.

Demanding that the hostages return isn't incompatible with naming & demanding an end to genocide.

Naming the power imbalance & impact thereof doesn't desecrate those murdered two years ago today.

I think you're right, but a cynical reading might be that the rules of engagement have changed since 2002, and if he's free then they could go after him like Haniyeh or Nasrallah. Alternatively, the US might want him out to try to keep the "2-state solution" machine spinning for a few more years.

Missed one. I mean I missed a lot, there are so many articles, but I meant to link this one too: www.jpost.com/breaking-new...

Note how most articles focus on individual events and avoid the broader, inescapable conclusion that only the IDF had the firepower to blow up that many cars and houses.
