The biggest hurdle in getting good at art is that you have to draw a lot, and you have to enjoy that time drawing or you're not going to want to do it. It doesn't matter if drawing cubes is somehow more efficient for learning perspective than drawing horse cocks if you get bored and quit.

Local assisted living facilities are taking additional security measures because the residents don’t want their care to be interrupted when ICE abducts their staff. Schools are closed for the safety of students, faculty, and staff. There is no facet of society or stage of life unaffected.
Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

Literally the first news outlet I've seen directly quoting her wife. Even the NPR piece on Renee Good that aired this morning made no mention of Becca Good whatsoever.

this is good advice. I use a time tracking app to time all the different parts of my process, just for myself to understand how long things take me. what I *think* I can do and what I can actually do often differ, AND my speed and energy changes over time, so its reallllly helpful to keep track of!
It is not my place as a writer to ever be like “this is my advice for an artist” but in line with this, I think one of the best thing anyone can do in tradpub is understand how long it takes you to do your job.
i spent my entire comics career thinking i was slow as mud for taking 2-3 years to finish each book, until my french editor called me "fast" and when i asked what he meant by that he said that on average french artists are taking 5-10 years to finish a book

i spent my entire comics career thinking i was slow as mud for taking 2-3 years to finish each book, until my french editor called me "fast" and when i asked what he meant by that he said that on average french artists are taking 5-10 years to finish a book
I wish I'd thought sooner to explain to tradpub editors that illustrating a graphic novel is not like writing a prose novel or illustrating a picture book, a 250-page GN is actually like illustrating eight picture books.
