Thank you. I am a huge fan of these birds. It’s great to see such a cooperative family group and they are incredibly aggressive towards steller’s & scrub jays and squirrels.

Fall bloom of beautiful yellow cinchweed around Borrego Springs and in Anza Borrego Desert State Park today thanks to lots of monsoonal summer rain. 90° harsh light but great to see. 🌿

When you see these birds, you never see just one - you see the family group and they are constantly vocalizing to each other and chasing off scrub & Steller’s Jays and squirrels.

Found 4 active acorn woodpecker granary trees in the mountains today en route to the desert. Group of eight birds very busy very vocal. These really are the coolest woodpeckers. So much fun to be around. 🪶

We’re off to the desert. I took this shot in the remote south end of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. The tall cactus is an endemic to eastern San Diego County called a Mason Valley Cholla and it can grow from 9 to 10 feet high. 🌿✌🏻
