Way too much Austin FC content. Cautiously engaging in USMNT discourse again.

If the length of the Austin FC offseason and MLS playoffs have you feeling unstuck in time, it's understandable. Cosmological timeframes can be overwhelming for the human mind. I've been keeping track of things tho. Here's where we're at. More updates to come.

It has been 10,000 days since Austin FC last played a game and the MLS playoffs still haven’t finished.

Here’s how I tried to do it at the start of the season—just looking at roster additions and subtractions. Biggest miss was Vancouver. I still think Austin is correct. We did do the most in the offseason to improve the team. We’re close to the best season outside of 2022.

A more mobile friendly, updated version of my offseason tracker. More arrows up = more good. More down = more bad. Hyphen = means more or less flat. But that's not necessarily bad, especially for LAFC, who had 1.88PPG last season.

I’m not saying anything should be laminated here I’m just saying f that it’s always good to remember that no one actually knows what they’re talking about in this league.

It’s extremely common for MLS teams to play horribly after a 3 days rest on a big mid week game. I applaud Nico for going for it… but he probably should have just rotated and parked the bus rather than play the starters.

The home form could be the worst in team history in terms of wins and is why Austin isn’t in the top 4 in the West
socceralt.bsky.social
This team’s ability to lay absolutely massive eggs at home is truly unrivaled.

A ripple just happened in space time. Something so improbable—actually downright impossible —just happened and the entire universe just shook and fractured.

We are definitely in a new timeline now.

Zan Kolmanic took a shot with his right foot.

Sabovic has to be one of the most disappointing Austin signings ever… and that’s saying something because I don’t think the expectations for him were THAT high to begin with.

I would like to kindly request that Austin players start having kids only once they’ve left the team.

I blame Pochettino. Get him out of Q2.

Spoiler: We didn’t put Wednesday behind us.
socceralt.bsky.social
This is very much a “put Wednesday behind us” lineup. Very little rotation. Let’s go.

Agreed! My only complaints from the stadium were waiting so long for subs and not including Kolmanic. Our team played great and on paper outplayed the supposed "better side" in every way except the one stat that matters. We finish better, and we are lifting that cup.

I learned with the Alphonso Davies transfer that development only begins after arriving in Europe.

I would implore locals and/or national media who think Nico was outcoached and out-tactic’d last night to please rewatch the game. This is coming from someone who has been highly, highly critical of Estevez all season.

A team of mostly MLS kids just stomped France. I bet USMNT twitter is super reflective and soul searching right now.
socceralt.bsky.social
Yep. I haven’t watched a replay yet but my memory of the play in the stadium was that it was a definite foul and would have forced a DOGSO decision if the ref called it. Be smart and go down in that situation.

The fact Surridge thought he could get away with kicking the ball away and took a second yellow for it is all we really need to know.

I don't really care about it and am glad we won't lose Stuver in October but...

Brad Stuver is a better keeper that everyone on this roster not named Matt Turner.

Moral victories don't count for anything.

Bukari did this on a break in the first half -- obviously fouled, could have gone done and probably drawn a yellow on the Nashville player. Finals are won by being the better team, sure, but being the smarter team helps a lot too.
socceralt.bsky.social
We also lacked a fair bit of savvy/gamesmanship in handling an easily manipulated ref -- on multiple plays our guys would ride fouls and keep playing. That's a great, honest way to play. But one team was better at influencing the ref to their advantage than the other. That team won the final.

I'm gonna be annoyed at Tori Penso for at least another 1,000 years. It was a poorly called cup final. Nashville players absolutely manipulated her and controlled the game for the final 30 minutes.

Not blaming her for the loss though -- Austin had enough control of the game, and quality, to win it.
