You don't pay dues to the Democratic Party because **it is a ballot line, not a political party**.

It doesn't pick candidates. State-run primaries do.

The Democratic ballot line is the left-of-center option in a two-stage runoff election.

I think people also just don't understand that "dues-paying membership" implies higher activity levels

There aren't many big dues-paying organizations in the country! When the big NGOs talk about "millions of supporters", they just mean "millions on our mailing list"! bsky.app/profile/socd...
It's genuinely funny when *neoliberals* call DSA small

Your largest dues-paying organization is in the range as Trotskyists and Maoists!

The fact that this is a fancy website with merch, not an insane autistic Tumblrista, makes me dislike the flag lmao

Want to win over Joe Rogan voters?

Embrace social democracy.

One reason I like this data: Size matters!

There's so much DISCOURSE, online & historically, about tiny groups with zero impact. Does history balance on what the 12 writers for Maoist Newspaper #389 think? No!

Example: The "patsoc" American Communist Party, of ENDLESS Twitter drama, is 300 dudes!

The American left spent 50 years in the wilderness.

We're back.

Fight the billionaires. They want to control your news, burn your planet, and kill your democracy.

Join the Democratic Socialists of America. Destroy the oligarchs before they destroy our country.

100,000 is not enough.

- America is bigger. In 1912, 1 in 850 people were SPA members. Just 1 in 3400 are DSA.

- We are diluted. SPA had socialist strongholds: In Milwaukee, 1 in 100 were SPA members! DSA does not: Just 1 in 600 New Yorkers are DSA.

We need a DSA of 500,000.

In 15 months, 50,000 members joined DSA. Why?

As in 2016, Trump's victory showed that centrist Democratic leadership cannot stop the threat of American fascism.

As in 2018, Zohran's victory showed that millions of Americans prefer social democracy to the neoliberal status quo.

Yet more proof that DSA is controlled by the Poaster Caucus.

Aside: If you know of any good sources to flesh out that article, let me know! Found lots of short references to Siddique, would love to add more substantial pieces.

Excellent article. The Republican coalition is held together by racist bigotry, social conservatism, and Trump worship.

Most establishment media works to ignore that reality. Cable news is filled with Republicans sane-washing Trump and his bigotry. It's "uncivil" to tell the truth.

I will be updating this dataset tonight: memleft.org

I am hoping to release a version of MemLeftOrg using per capital rates

TLDR is that we're about 1/3 of the 1910s, which was the peak of US history

Graph needs updating, but it makes the point

We've seen a massive expansion of leftist orgs (Our Revolution had about 120k dues-payers after Bernie, still about 60k) & progressive orgs (WFP has grown further to 600,000 donors).

The organized left is healthier than any time since 1944, at least.
