📝💡 New research by Prof @manyeekan.bsky.social & Dr @gczching.bsky.social finds that teenage girls spend more time on domestic work than boys - with the largest gender gaps found in Western societies, though still pronounced in East Asia.

Quote from Dr Grace Change: "Understanding adolescent behaviours enables demographers to identify early life cycle factors contributing to gender inequality, examine their effect on transitions to adulthood, and assess their long-term implications for population change and behaviour."

📝 New research by Nan Dirk de Graaf shows a common pattern of secularisation across societies.

🌏 In 100+ countries, religious decline follows 3 key steps:

1. People stop public worship
2. Religion loses personal importance
3. They drop religious identity

Quote by Nan Dirk de Graaf: "Modernisation, secularisation, and resurgence processes are expected to be contingent on highly complex and specific geographic, cultural, and historical conditions. While we do not doubt that historical contingencies are important, our findings suggest that secularisation processes may be more similar across the world than was previously thought."

📢 Research by DPhil student Zoe Abrams reveals a major shift in Scottish attitudes to sexual violence after #MeToo.

Between 2014–2019, victim blaming declined and perceptions of perpetrator culpability rose - though changes varied across social groups.

Image of DPhil student Zoe Abrams and quote: "By identifying which groups' attitudes have shifted the most, we can see which sectors of a population may benefit from targeted efforts to improve their understanding of sexual violence.

While many became more critical of harmful narratives about rape, major social movements like #MeToo do not impact everyone equally. Movements seeking to shift social norms may require alternative communication strategies to reach less engaged groups."

🧠 A paper by DPhil student Giacomo Melli highlights the power of subjective social status in shaping attitudes to wealth redistribution.

But context matters: in more unequal societies, support for redistribution is less divided by perceived status.

🔗➡️ www.sociology.ox.ac.uk/article/stud...
Image of Giacomo Melli with quote: "Globally, these results reinforce the relevance of subjective social status as a central predictor of socio-political outcomes. By showing that contextual structural inequality moderates these relationships, these results reaffirm the sociological perspective of individuals as agents embedded in different social structures."
