Perhaps, if he had never left the Southern Water Tribe and learned just how big the world was, Sokka could have stayed just as he used to be. The heart could not yearn for that which it did not know. But Sokka had made his choice. He had put Katara's safety above all. He had left the South Pole. He had discovered the world and himself. Thus were the consequences of knowledge. And he understood that old adage that previously escaped him. yeah okay, here. three future scenes that are destroying me emotionally.
“He told me then that he didn't understand why they wouldn't take the opportunity presented to them,” Sokka said. “But a few days ago, he told me he thought he understood now. Because of me. And that he wished he could apologize to that friend. For not understanding. For forcing them to choose when it was he who should've chosen to protect them.” “Kya?” said a soft voice, and Sokka froze. “Kya, is that really you?” Sokka turned. There was a woman behind him. She seemed to be around her early forties. She was short and on the thin side. But most strikingly, one of her eyes was milky white and the eyelid droopy. Right next to her eye was a scar leading from the corner to her temple. “Oh,” she said, “I'm so sorry, I mistook you for someone else.” She paused, her expression sad. “You look so much like someone I used to know.” “She accepted you,” Sokka breathed, heart aching. His memories were filled with his mother's gentle discouragement and warnings. It seemed incongruent that she had accepted [redacted] but not him. It hurt.
