I heavily associate the scent of lilac with Vanni. Maybe because it reminds me of his eye color. Othertimes something earthy and foresty like sage or rosemary.

While I love a lot of the job quests stories, there were a few I dismissed in favor of my own canon because it felt better for my wol. PLD is one of these. Vanni became a PLD out of a desire to protect his friends, in the same way a certain someone had done for him. He avoided it for a while though.
