So far a squiggle is the best way I can represent my cartoon avatar's nose from the 3/4 view.

Removing much of the outline and highlight on my avatar's nose, I get a subtle rendition, which, like the single shadow on the side of the head and face and neck, I prefer.

In Inkscape, I was able to use the nose stroke in the quoted post to create an unlined, even more 3D-looking shape.
