Every time I'm asked to install something by piping a curl command into bash I feel like my faith in computers is being tested. Probably exactly what Abraham felt, I bet

Sorry, man. You seem cool and I wish I knew what words to say to trick you into being happier. My best effort: ask yourself if anyone *else's* life has a purpose (specific people you know, not "life" as an abstract mass). If it's "yes", then you've found at least one point of a life.

Funniest explanation would be if they just used it to hallucinate up fake data to ransom. Sent everyone a csv with a million names like Hernbert Brubrerry and sequential SSNs

Having it go into "deep-thinking" mode when asked to count letters isn't a solution because (1) it's churning for 20+ seconds to count the bs in "b" and (2) it fails again if you slightly reword the question:

Or it just generates plausible-enough text through algorithms none of us have access to, and we're being asked to interact with it by assuming that it has a rich inner life and intention and can "get in a rush", and that's a recipe for us all to get mild scizophrenia. It did not "scan letter shapes"

It didn’t read it with eyeballs, though. It didn’t convert the ascii to, like, Bézier curves and try to overlap their shapes. This is as if it explained away a math error by saying that the “3” on its keyboard was broken

As someone who will buy Bea Wolf 2, thank you for enduring the agony.

Thanks for writing this review. I liked Animal Pound, but it left me with the feeling that there were loose threads; that the allegory wasn't quite meshing in subtle ways I couldn't quite put my finger on. Your review really helped me clarify my thoughts.

Oh no, you weren't exaggerating! This really is the single cringiest thing I've ever read -- never seen a larger gap between what he wanted to say ("finally, technology has advanced far enough for me to express the poetry in my heart") and what he revealed ("I lust for street urchins")

Maybe you could avoid turning it into a speedrun and still catch LLM users if the locked-down writing was *about* the research paper? Like, the students are given the prompt “which claims in your paper had the least consensus” or “what were the differences in agenda between three of your sources”?

Basic physics: planes should fly in a straight line at constant speed. They should also neglect air resistance and be massless particles.

I don't know why I was so dismissive of midlife crises when I was younger. It's when people finally understand that people *do* just be dying, so let them get weird for a few years. Let them believe they're going to learn to play the guitar or whatever

I'm not sure I identify it as a newspaper *before* I model its qualities. It feels more like I switch to a model that only has, like, three categories: other cars, people/animals, and stuff I can run over. As soon as I see a thing that is flat/thin I immediately decide it's run-overable. I think?
