Not an auspicious start. I think Villa actually lost every pre-season game last year by much larger margins though, so my delulu self has decided this 1-0 loss is a good sign

Aston Villa will play a friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, July 26, in Louisville, Kentucky, before playing two more Stateside games vs St. Louis City and Nashville. Villa then take on fellow Europa League side AS Roma at the Bescot on Wednesday, August 6.
