Elise: I know music a little bit. Or thought I did. Grew up in Texas and Georgia. Write songs. Have a band. And hell: I'm actually a frequent listener and office suite mate just around the hall (where I'm a civil rights lawyer by day). So what am I saying: well, I thought I knew music (and Christmas music) until I started listening to your show. In a word: amazing. And with surprises and discoveries at every turn. In a world (and at a time) when both of those things are in short, diminishing supply, your thoughtful frequency is a welcome guest in my home. I've shared your link with all my southern friends (and the few City folks I know who don't yet know y'all), so I hope they too will listen (and donate to the cause). I appreciate you. This is cool. SomaFM supporter Dave says: I built my own internet radio a year ago so I could listen to stations like yours without having to boot my PC!
Its processor is the ESP32 feather from Adafruit: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-huzzah32-esp32-feather It provides the wifi capability, reads the knobs and runs the OLED display. The ESP32 then sends the data stream to the VS1053 MP3 codec board, also from Adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1381 That board provides the stereo analog sound output that goes through a small preamp board (green) before going to my speakers. I wrote the code to run the whole thing, using Adafruit's software libraries.

Is an example of some of the crap we have to go through to keep providing commercial, free, listener supported radio. How long is a time consuming, but it will cost us a lot of money in legal and accounting fees.

Used to listen to Groove Salad with my dad back in the early 00's. Our relationship went downhill as I get older, but I always come back to Groove Salad Classic and Groove Salad and think of him. These days, I've found plenty of new favorites. Defcon or PopTron or The Trip while I work, Drone Zone while I sleep, Vaporwaves or Lush while I read and relax. There's a station for every possible thing you could be doing. I've graduated high school, stumbled through young adult life, loved, lost, got married, bought a home, and started a family. Throughout all those years, this has been a constant I can come back to. Thank you.
