But it didn’t work in practice because the retailers that sold their product never lowered the price at shelf. They just kept it the same and got a little extra margin. The company almost went under because of it and ended up having to do a price increase

I work with a lot of food brands and have only ever seen 1 do a price decrease. They thought their price on shelf would go down and that their volume would go up because they were now a better option in their category which makes sense in theory

You’re right, milk eggs and produce have more fluctuations and there are systems to support those changes in prices. Products in center store/fridge/frozen don’t, especially when they come in via a distributor.

I work in the grocery industry and Q1 will be much worse. A lot of mid sized brands had been holding off on doing an increase but are now deciding to pull the trigger. These things take 90 days to implement and there are tons starting now.
Also, price decreases don’t happen.

To get real high/crackpot about it, I believe that this problem is why we have pyramids. Farming > Way more people > Common people couldn’t find meaning and went crazy > People in charge invented a Project for everyone to work on > It got bigger and bigger, the message was lost, and here we are!

Every movement and group out there is trying to solve that problem either directly or indirectly, and all their solutions are at odds with each other. But the scale and stakes of it all right now are just so much more than any group of humans have ever had to deal with

My theory of everything for the state that we’re in as a civilization right now is that we’ve all run out of meaningful things to do and it’s making us crazy. There are no new discoveries to be made by the average person. Everything is way to complex. It’s impossible to be an expert anymore

Super agree! I’ve been in the natural foods industry for a while and have seen the same push with most food trends- so many brands that are trying to “change the way that we ___” are founded by bored independently wealthy people who are looking for a sense of meaning in their lives

And they also don’t understand the historical context. I feel like in a vacuum that’s NBD, but we can’t pretend that it isn’t being exploited by RW influencers, and we also can’t pretend that it’s working super well and more young boys are on a pipeline to radicalization.

She is growing up in a world where LOTS of media tell her that she and all girls are really great, and I think that’s great and needed. But as a kid, she just does not understand the historical context of it all. To her, she just hears that all girls rule and are great. Boys don’t hear that message

god I don’t know why I’m doing this, but I do feel like there is a balance here that we aren’t getting to and it’s being exploited by the hard right. I live in a progressive county in a blue state and have a young daughter. Her world is different from the world of a young boy right now
