I think even in the 3DS version (which cut it significantly down) it took something like three hours before I hit the first battle… I’m going to be miffed if the demo doesn’t get that far… but it’s a lot of game to give away… unless they made bigger cuts… which would explain the demo

For those unfamiliar with DQVII; the game is infamous for being Too Damn Long and the first few hours were considered especially egregious… which has me curious about where the demo is going to end…

Part of my motivation for picking this up again was me reading Thunder Rift but it became more urgent when I learned about a mod that seems to be BT2018’s equivalent of Long War and moves the action to the Civil War era, which people tell me is the best Era

Looking at walkthroughs it seems I'm about halfway through the main story! Just defeated and captured one of the main conspirators

the especially horrific ones fire heat gel at you, causing your mechs to overheat and shut down before you can return fire

In-fiction they can be used to cook a pilot alive but lucky for me that isn't modelled in the game

One thing I've learned from the Level 3+ difficulty missions is that missile trucks are often more dangerous than mechs in combat

since the post above and after reading a handful of the books, I restarted my playthrough and had a much better time

since the post from two weeks ago I'm quoting, I managed to farm enough money and salvage to field a lance made entirely of Assault Mechs (the heaviest class of mech)
