Hi, we're new here! MACRI is working to build the first national Mexican American civil rights history museum in the U.S. Located in San Antonio, TX, the national cradle of Mexican American civil rights, we're expanding the story of civil rights in America through public programs & exhibits.

#OTD In 1991, Rosita la Monstrua de las Cuevas debuted on Sesame Street, becoming the first Mexican American Muppet character on the beloved children's program. She is also Sesame Street's first bilingual and first Latina Muppet character that is a regular member of the cast.

On this day in 1960, CBS News aired Harvest of Shame, Edward R. Murrow’s groundbreaking documentary exposing the harsh realities faced by farmworkers in the United States.

Murrow’s reporting brought national attention to conditions that too many Americans had never seen.

#OTD in 1973, after building gradually, the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS), was formally created. Originally named the National Association of Chicano Social Scientists, it was renamed in 1995 to acknowledge the contributions of Chicanas in the association.

Born #OTD in 1932, Gregory Luna is a civil rights trailblazer who served in the Texas House of Representatives & State Senate from 1985 to 1999, & championed improving education & public school finance. He helped found the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund & served four terms as chair.
