Delighted to learn that Dr Thao Phan is awarded the 2025 Max Crawford medal, Australia's major prize for early-career humanities researchers! Pleasantly surprised it went to an STS scholar for the first time too. Such good news!

Thanks to @aussts.bsky.social for an immensely stimulating, challenging, convivial, and inspiring conference. I’m leaving #AusSTS2025 with a head full of ideas, re-energised by conversations with colleagues and kin. There is a very special STS community in the antipodes 🫶

"For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging."

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

So sad that a dear friend and colleague, Mario Biagioli, died a few days ago, far too young. I find it hard to believe: Mario seemed always so vital, so full of energy and enthusiasm, a true intellectual. A great loss

Too late to offer a paper but soon registration for HoMSEA in Yogyakarta will open. An interesting article in the NYT on Yogya in the past day or so. While it's not as magical as in 1978, when I first visited, still worth experiencing. Not to forget Solo, only a few hours away, and much quieter....
Never Heard of Yogyakarta? It Might Be the Center of the Universe. (Gift Article)
The Indonesian city is home to some of the greatest Hindu and Buddhist temples, a thriving food scene and an area known as the Cosmological Axis, a cradle of Javanese culture.
