Eh, was vanacek really going to be part of the big picture? Georgiev is struggling, sure, but he's a vet and SJ has had great success rejuvenating down trending goaltenders (blackwood, vanacek). An Askarov/Georgiev combo is solid enough, once asky is healthy. Getting 3.4M off the books isn't nil!

Sharks don't really need a goalie and are looking for center depth especially for their AHL team as they push for playoffs. Plus it frees up some money for them to try and overpay solid veterans to come to our team and mentor the younglings next season.

I see, I misunderstood! When people say "starter" I often associate that with "starting goalie". My bad! I hope Kovalenko is in the lineup vs Carolina tonight!

Askarov likely stays with the barracuda to lead them in their playoff charge. Georgiev and Vanecek will be the tandem until summer, so we should see more askarov next season.
