8. "It's Not Just Me, It's Everybody" by Weyes Blood (2022)

Okay maybe after two garage rock picks it's time to get a little less aggro, get a little wistful. Maybe do some dancing, we've got this nice abandoned theater here to do it in. Ignore the dead bodies, those aren't important!

absolutely feels like TK just felt pressured to confirm that they're official but either is *still* in "I don't have all the pieces in place to run this the way I want to" mode or doesn't want to run it and the build for Blood and Guts at the same time (except he did neither last night).

And they had time for all of that, they explicitly had more time than Dynamite usually has, and instead you basically got two backstage promo segments for every single match on the card (except for the women's match...). TK really went into "EWR booker filling out a backyard show" mode.

7. "Bogus Operandi" by The Hives (2023)

If you're going to do one thing your whole career, do it very well. And better yet, take a break from doing it for like a decade so when you do it again people are like "oh right, it's actually pretty great when they do the only thing they do."

Oh this is pick 6, not five. But y'know, phone post, whatever.

5. "brutal" by Olivia Rodrigo (2021)

Glad Elvis Costello was chill about this song's use of *basically* the "Pump It Up" riff both because it's the right attitude for things like this but also because honestly I think I like this song's use of it more. Perfect teenage fit riff.

On Orange Cassidy; symbols and conventions in pro wrestling, using the 10/1/25 Dynamite match with Kyle Fletcher as a quick case study to highlight what some are too stubborn to see.

5. "Angry Girl" by Confidence Man (2022)

Every busy season at work there's some random song I latch on to that manages to keep me sane and this was the Fall 2022 Fuck This Project Banger for sure. Expertly deployed scream-talking by Janet Planet.

4. "Ladies" by Fiona Apple (2020)

When I saw the Ice Spice clause the first artist I thought of that would fill one of those spots was very obvious and so she should be the first I post. This song won me over from the first word (repeated over and over to wonderful effect).

3. "Electric Fish" by Ana Frango Elétrico (2023)

tremendously propulsive throwback Brazilian funk, which also turns out to be a really good song to soundtrack footage of mid-20th century Japanese cinema too as someone I stumbled across on YouTube seems to have found a while back

when your absolute dumbest swing yet actually makes it into the pop poll:
it's Sickos Yes Yes but I pasted Mr. T's head from the Be Somebody or Be Somebody's Fool VHS cover on top of the man's head. I'm assuming you're reading this because you can't see the image so rest assured it looks very very good and totally seamless.

2. "The Loneliest Time" by Carly Rae Jepsen

has there ever been a more triumphant declaration of acceptance that you have your fans and you're okay not chasing for more than, after not having features for multiple albums, finally bringing one in and it's a *Wainwright?* Joyous stuff.

Circle K has what can only be described as “Saints Row Food”

people very much know when shows are being put on for the benefit of the US government and haven't been shy of giving shit to the performers who say yes to doing that, too. It's a nonsense argument.

oh hey y'know what I'm gonna do #TheTwen2ie5, a song challenge about songs from the 2020s! my list is unranked because it's nowhere near finalized and what better way to start it than the quintessential sound of the '20s

Dude if the Democratic Party has a place for anti-trans and anti-abortion candidates then I’m not a democrat and I won’t vote for one

I don’t know what to tell you man, there’s already a political party who believes these things

It’s not a “big tent” to have zero fixed values in pursuit of power

I was basically torn between it and "Let's Go Crazy" as my main and did my "I'm going to let the people who are ready to post their lists within the first minute decide" and lo and behold. Happy to ensure it's in the poll!

I think even at Age Eight or Nine or Ten I Dunno I'm Not Looking It Up I was like "well wait why wouldn't they all be like Taz, I want to watch a show with like five of him doing Taz things"
sonofmechamummy.bsky.social
that show was a real accomplishment in the field of '90s cartoons because it successfully established where the limits of "what if we just pilfered old film star personas for all our original characters" because even as a kid who could roll with Animaniacs and Tiny Toons, Taz Mania baffled me.
