An excellent article in The Conversation today looking at the inequity in the cost of university degrees in Australia.

theconversation.com/how-did-aust...
How did Australian universities go from free education to $50,000 arts degrees in 50 years?
Thanks to the Job Ready Graduates scheme, an arts degree today will cost over $50,000. How have five decades of government policy taken us from free education to this?

'We might be historians, but the point of all this isn’t a history lesson. We’re not advocating a return to a mythical golden age. Education is fundamentally about the future and our aspirations for it.'
Universities have lost their way, but cost-cutting and consultants are not the answer
Last week in Sydney, we saw a melodrama acted out that could stand in for the state of Australian universities more generally.

In a wealthy country like ours, people shouldn’t have to wait months— even years—for treatment. Dental care should be accessible to everyone.

This term, the government must fix the cavity in our healthcare system. We should start by expanding funded dental care for young children and seniors.
Don can't afford a private dentist. It will be the focus of Medicare push
Patients in every state and territory can expect to wait months, if not years, for non-urgent public dental care.

6 weeks out from the election, no major policies from Peter Dutton. Nothing significant on housing, cost of living, tax reform, health or education. Just cash splashes and thought bubbles.

Want real reform? Vote Independent.
