I was the original Series Producer on the Chase and employed an independent adjudicator who made sure I didn’t swap any questions during the game. It wasn’t compulsory but I wanted one to keep it fair. And The Chase is. On other shows I’ve been asked to swap questions mid game to affect results

I think an examination of where the bias truly lies would be revealing - a bias that started under the Tories under pressure from them and political appointments. The right wants the BBC to settle because then it will be weakened further, which is their goal.

The last few days Radio 4 has included numbers of migrants crossing the channel as part of their hourly bulletins. How is that news? No records broken, no milestone reached, just a running commentary. Not to mention the promotion of Farage in Question Time etc

It’s great TV but the money thrown at it will be huge. Unfortunately that means less for everything else. It’s not a British format so no benefit from international format sales, unlike Strictly.

It was utterly joyous. Shows what a brilliant format it is that it works in both iterations. And shows how well-funded, excellently made television has the power to unite us.

He was very clearly intimating that black people should be stopped and searched and if they were, this guy would have been stopped. And then blamed Sadiq Khan for reducing sus in London. It’s all dog-whistling.

And this is why independent adjudicators need to be mandatory on quiz and game shows. I don’t watch Beat The Chasers but I know it is adjudicated by Beyond Dispute, the gold standard for TV adjudication, so hard though it must have been for this player, the result will be fair.

So then why did she choose that specific example to highlight? I assume because she knows it will resonate with a particular tranche of white middle England. She hasn’t done it randomly or with calculation.
