This is the official Sophie Lancaster Foundation page. 🖤

We work to challenge prejudice, change attitudes, and promote respect for people from alternative subcultures.

Sophie was murdered because of her appearance, our mission is to ensure no one else suffers for being themselves. 🖤

We are saddened and overwhelmed at the horror of the violent attack on the Heaton Park Synagogue. No one should be targeted for their identity or the community they belong to. We stand against all forms of hate and continue to advocate for a society where everyone can live without fear of prejudice

We remember Sophie today and pledge our commitment to continue the work that Sylvia started: to Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere.

At Sophie’s murder trial, the attack was described as feral thuggery by His Honour Judge Anthony Russell QC. Many of us might stand out as different in our communities, but we all have the right to be who are and live in safety.

It’s 18 years ago today that the attack took place in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, that took Sophie’s life 13 days later. We send love to Sophie’s family and friends and all that love her. Sophie is not just a figurehead or a banner we march behind; she was a person who should be here with us today.

We're counting down the days until Bloodstock Festival where our amazing community comes together. Every year Bloodstock gives us the space to celebrate difference, individuality and unity.
So here's our question for you:
What's the most memorable or meaningful moment you've had at Bloodstock?

Thanks to all of you who stand with us and show love and support for our mission through your actions and messages. We couldn’t do it without you.

We educate for a more tolerant and inclusive society. One where we can live true to ourselves and safely express our own identity.

If you support the Foundation, you are choosing to align with our values and understand the mission we have. We are a small team of four people supported by a Board of Trustees and we work tirelessly to support victims of hate crime.
sophiecharity.bsky.social
If you consult the Foundation, we have a duty of care to you. We will safeguard you to the best of our ability and will not share your details or private conversations. We understandably cannot play those conversations out in the public arena.
sophiecharity.bsky.social
If we don’t stand together or if we cherry pick which hatred and intolerance we find acceptable, we are clearly part of the problem and not the solution.
sophiecharity.bsky.social
Core to our mission is to challenge all forms of hatred and intolerance in our communities and educate people to be more accepting of others, however we are different.

We thought it was time to do a post for friends old and new. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was founded by Sylvia Lancaster following Sophie’s murder, targeted solely because of the perpetrators’ response to her alternative identity.

We’re eligible for a £2000 award 🖤

This funding will directly support our education and outreach programmes where we challenge prejudice, change attitudes and promote acceptance. It only takes a minute to nominate.

Deadline to vote is 27 July 2025.

To everyone who attended, shared the event or engaged with the conversation, thank you. Every voice counts in challenging hatred. Your support helps us continue to educate and raise awareness for a more tolerant society where people are free to be themselves without fear.

As well as broader issues like artificial intelligence, the government and legacy of cultural icons like Vivienne Westwood.
We’d like to extend our thanks to the filmmaker to Hannah Lisa Price and to everyone involved in its screening.

This short film was commissioned by the National Festival of Making and presented by the Blackburn Museum Collective and Creatives of Blackburn. It explored the discrimination faced by alternative communities and was a creative piece that touched on prejudice, identity and acceptance.

Yesterday saw the screening of Creating Your Avatar at Reel Cinemas in Blackburn, as part of the Blackburn Festival of Film. It was a meaningful moment and we’re honoured that all proceeds from the event are being donated directly to The Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

Help us improve how we support the alternative community following hate crime. Ten minute survey conducted for us by Centre for Hate Studies and funded by National Lottery Community Fund: app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/leicester/... #wearesophie #alternative #hatecrime

To our amazing volunteers who helped us at the stand, thank you. You were outstanding and we couldn't have done it without you.
When we are all together, it reminds us just how powerful our community can be.
Until next time, keep it kind and keep being exactly who you are.

It was great to talk to everyone and the love, openness and solidarity shown by this community is what makes Download more than just a music festival. Meeting so many of you face to face, hearing how Sophie's story has touched your lives and seeing your continued support gives us strength.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to visit us and supported us over the weekend. Every conversation, every shared story and every act of kindness helps us continue Sophie's legacy.

What an incredible few days we've had at Download Festival 2025.
It was hot, it was dusty, and you patiently waited to get to the front of the line to see us. The whole team were blown away by how gracious and kind you all were, we can't tell you how much it means to us.
